Invasive Plants

There are numerous invasive plants that are stressing the natural habitats of the Arboretum. In an effort to understand the invasive species, I've come across a couple of references that I'd like to share ...

Control of InvasiveSpecies Phragmites australis in Ontario ... http://www.algonquinadventures.com/arboretum/docs/Phragmites.pdf

Biology and Biological Control of Garlic Mustard ... http://www.algonquinadventures.com/arboretum/docs/GarlicMustardBiocontro...

Thanks for sharing these documents.  I must admit that I'm woefully ignorant on some of the issues discussed.  There is really a lot to know.

Hopefully by the end of this project I'll have a much better understanding of the ecological makeup of the arboretum.

Evolving from my concerns about invasive plants back in May, I've put together an online portal to ecological matters affecting the town of Aurora.

It' goes by the name "Green Aurora" and is located at https://greenaurorablog.wordpress.com . It provides links to information and opportunities to communicate concerning local ecological matters such as flora, fauna, invasives, gardening.

Its bird and plant references could help in identifying some of our Arboretum photos' subjects.

After a meeting Sep. 20th with Jim Tree (Parks Manager), I’m happy to report that in the coming months, a map-inventory of outbreaks in Aurora of Phragmites, Dog Strangling Vine and Japanese Knotweed will be undertaken. I’ve agreed to participate in this project.
