Bird Watching at the Arboretum

I've been informed that there's a group at the Arboretum that's intent on producing a Bird Watching Trail on the east side of the creek, northeast of the Leisure Centre. The area in question has apparently been identified as having the habitat condusive to a number of different bird species. So that's an opportunity for bird photographers .. to join the Arboretum, to help on a specific project and to enhance their own pursuit of bird photography!

For those who aren't all-knowledgeable about the different bird species (myself included), there's a super free smart-phone app put out by the Cornell Lab called "Merlin". I've had it on my phone for a couple of weeks now and find it amazing. It operates free of the phone network by having all its content internal .. searchable data base, photos, text, maps & birdcalls. Mind you, all that content makes it one humongous app at nearly 1 Gig.

There's an alternative method of bird identification available from the same Cornell Lab. It's located at http://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/photo-id/ and starts the search with you uploading a bird photo and clicking on a few key points on it. I uploaded a photo of a swallow and the website correctly identified it as a Northern Rough-winged Swallow.

Also, from the North American Bird Conservation Initiative is a downloadable PDF 8-page highly detailed "State of North America's Birds 2016" .. http://www.stateofthebirds.org/2016/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/SoNAB-ENGLISH-web.pdf
